1. Chair Introduction
The UNESCO Chair on Global Health and Education at Peking University was established in 2022, with Professor Yinghua Ma from the Institute of Child and Adolescent Health of Peking University serving as the chairholder.
The UNESCO Chair/UNTWINS program was launched by UNESCO in 1992 to promote global development in important issues such as education, health, and culture, with each chair focusing on specific issues. As of February 1, 2023, there are 944 chairs worldwide, including three "Chairs on Global Health and Education." Peking University is the third university to establish a UNESCO Chair on Global Health and Education, following Clermont Auvergne University in France and Osaka University in Japan. It is also the first university to establish a UNESCO Chair specifically for Children and Adolescents' Global Health and Education.
The UNESCO Chair on Global Health and Education collaborates with universities, research institutions, enterprises, and partners both domestically and internationally to promote the construction and development of "health-promoting schools" globally. The chair engages in technology exchange, knowledge sharing, and practical collaboration with partners in areas such as health-promoting school initiatives, school health programs, the establishment of electronic resource platforms for children's health, and the prevention and promotion of key health issues among children and adolescents. The ultimate goal is to extend the wisdom and best practices of chair members and partner organizations to more schools, families, and communities, thereby enhancing the health and well-being of children and adolescents.
The UNESCO Chair on Global Health and Education focuses on several key topics, including the prevention of common diseases in children and adolescents such as obesity, myopia, and psychological problems; the development of health-promoting schools and communities; the enhancement of health services capacity for children and adolescents; and the eradication of health and education inequalities.
