The Department of Occupational Health, Department of Environmental Health and Department of Sanitary Chemistry, founded in 1954, 1950, and 1981 respectively, merged into a new department in 2000 and were renamed as the Department of Occupational & Environmental Health Sciences. The current chair of the department is Professor Xinbiao Guo.
The department offers the related professional courses for undergraduate students and provides the degree programs for Master of Science, Master of Public Health (MPH) and PhD, as well as professional continuing education for public health. The another mission of the department is to perform high level research works on the health effects of the population exposure to the chemical, physical, and biological factors in the occupational and living environment.

Scientific Research
The main research areas: (1) Occupational Health：Dust and pneumoconiosis, physical factors and ergonomics, industrial hygiene for women, industrial toxicology, safety evaluation of nanoparticles, biomarkers and biological monitoring, etc. (2) Environmental Health: Indoor and outdoor air pollution, environmental Health risk quantitative assessment, trace elements and health, metal pollution and health, toxicological mechanisms of environmental pollutants, effects of environmental factors and their mechanisms etc. (3) Sanitary Chemistry: biological standard materials, study on the assay of environmental and biological materials.
Research Projects in recent 5 years:
In the past 5 years, the department has obtained over 60 million Chinese Yuan research budget from over 110 research grants, supported by Ministry of Science & Technology, National Natural Science Foundation of China, other national and provincial foundations and international collaborations.
Achievements of scientific research in recent 5 years:
In the past 5 years, the department has published more than 180 scientific papers in international or domestic peer reviewed academic journals.
